Work has begun to create a pond on the McNichols Campus at the spot where the Fisher Administration Center occupied until it was demolished in 2023. While the retention pond will be a living classroom for some science programs, the landscaping and a boardwalk will surely make it a destination for gathering and relaxation. Work is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
The Student Union — Hub of Campus Life

The recently-completed expansion and extensive update of the Student Union makes it more than ever the hub of campus life! The new Student Union is the “go-to” center for convenient access to food, essential services, corners for studying (or sleeping) and most importantly, a place to unwind and hangout with friends.

Campus Expansion — Creating More Green Spaces

The University recently purchased land at the south end of campus (behind Shiple Hall). Plans for the land include an intramural sports field and green space specially designed for students to escape and enjoy the outdoors.
And More — Improvements All Across Campus

- New concrete and resurfaced lots across campus
- New windows in North Quad
- New skylights in Engineering High Bay in September
- Engineering Annex
When the McNichols Campus Renovation Project is complete, nearly every building on McNichols Campus will be upgraded. All this investment is focused on making the Detroit Mercy student experience the best it can be.
“We are extremely excited to welcome students, their families, alumni and our community friends to the new Student Union and look forward to providing exceptional services and support to them under one roof.”
– Donald Taylor, President
